Roy Strickland, Program Director, Publishes Chapter in Making the Metropolitan Landscape

Roy Strickland, M.U.D. program director, has published his chapter “Integrating Urban Design and Educational Reform in the Post-Industrial American City: Paterson, NJ as a City of Learning” in Making the Metropolitan Landscape: Standing Firm on Middle Ground, edited by Jacqueline Tatom with Jennifer Stauber and published by Routledge (New York and London).

M.U.D. Designs for Manhattan Presented to Regional Plan Association in New York City

In June, the 2009 M.U.D. final studio designs for Manhattan’s Lower East Side will be presented to the Regional Plan Association in New York City.  The studio re-designed 1.5 miles of public housing projects along the East River waterfront.  The designs provide examples for addressing a problem found throughout the world:  the clash between traditional urban form and 20th-century Modernist urban renewal, represented by the superblock and high-rise apartment tower. The M.U.D.

M.U.D. Program Returns to Turkey for Third Consecutive Year

The M.U.D. program’s 2009 fall term intermediate studio will execute The Black Sea Transect Project, a study of the Rize, Turkey metropolitan area extending from the city’s downtown waterfront to surrounding mountains. This is the third M.U.D. studio project in Turkey in three years. In August, students and Professors Roy Strickland and Kit McCullough will fly to Turkey for two weeks of site visits and meetings with national and regional planners, government officials, and academics.
